A REAL Divetek Advanced Rescue Course
Divetek has a different philosophy when it comes to further training especially the Divetek Advanced Rescue Course.
We advise that you do Advanced and perhaps Nitrox and then stop there. Most agencies sell you the next course as a matter of procedure. Almost everyone can do all the advanced and leadership courses. This is because they have made the courses very easy, so regardless of ability or skill you become a rescue diver or Divemaster. Sadly a large number of divers have the qualification but not the knowledge or skills.
The Divetek Advanced Rescue is very different, it is a tough course and is certainly not advised for every diver.
It is a course for those that really love the sport and want to go further as well as those on the ladder to become an Instructor.
There are two separate aims with the rescue course:
1. To train the diver to be an excellent and calm diver in any situation. This is essential before you can be a rescue diver.
We achieve this by putting the candidate through stressful scenarios and showing them the techniques do deal with these situations.
The tasks include:
Surviving in a pool with hands and feet tied
Openwater free ascents without regulator
Out of breath at depth to deal with Dense Gas Restriction (DGR)
Being given faulty equipment and forced to stay down and deal with it.
2 Km swim back to shore with full gear (lost at sea scenario) then back out again
As a result the candidates do need a certain basic fitness and toughness.
2. Rescue skills and knowledge.
There is a full Scuba First Aid course included. This is a full SCUBA first aid course and not a simple EFR that is not diving specific.
During the rescue phase we cover topics such as lost diver procedures (Inland and sea techniques) Panic control, deep rescue, surf rescue, boating and emergency care on the boat or shore.
There is a final complete rescue scenario that needs to be passed
Included is a “dive” in a recompression chamber.
There are 8 lectures
One long or two shorter pool sessions
Practical and dives inland (one day)
Practical and dives at the coast (2 days)
At the end of the course the successful candidates will be knowledgable and skillful divers and able to deal with any rescue situation. This is a real rescue course.
